I let my N800 sit for about a week and the battery has apparently died while it was on. When I plug it into the charger, the white NOKIA screen flashes about 5 times then it sits black. I have let it sit all night without the battery in, installed the battery, waited 3 minutes, then put it on the charger and the same thing happens. I've removed the SD cards and that doesn't help. I've tried holding the power button down every which way on and off the charger... it won't turn on or charge at all.

This is the second N800 I've had with power-on/charging problems. The first one I returned, this is a replacement that has been working fine for a few months but is now unable to turn on or charge.

What do I do to get it to charge and power on?

Leave it on the charger (with the battery in) for a few hours, see if it comes up to the charging screen...

Worst case, if the N800 can't charge the battery, you could try with an external charger to get the battery up. But I think it should work, if you leave it on the charger long enough.

I have left it on the charger with the battery in for 48 hours. It doesn't charge or turn on or do anything. It just sits with a black screen.

I can't find an external battery charger. Where do you buy one?

You might try another charger, if you have more than one. (Maybe even try a cigarette lighter charger... if you have one?)

In the past I saw similar behavior on my friends tablet... and when we tried it with my charger it started to charge. Likely what happened is that the charger couldn't provide enough power to power up the tablet and start charging completely empty battery.

Thanks Mara, that was it. I didn't realize that I was using a cheap aftermarket charger rather than the Nokia one. The tablet appears to be charging now. Thanks very much!

BTW: My 'cheap alternative charger' has been working fine for about a year now. It cost me about $10 on ebay (which I am boycotting now for other reasons).
