Has anyone put any time into converting any of the open source trackers to OS 2008? I'm sure it's much, much more complicated than I think, but given how many platforms are already being supported by many of them it doesn't seem *that* unreasonable the the Nokia tablets could run them.

LittleGPTracker
Milky Tracker

LittleGP doesn't seem as "open source" so it might not be possible to compile a OS 2008 version of it, but Milky Tracker's source code is available.

Thoughts?

Responding to your own questions might be a sign of shaken sanity, but I found a Debian package of MilkyTracker:

Milkytracker

Would it take much to make this tablet friendly? Having something like this would really be a lot of fun to "jot down" musical ideas.

Well, looking at the dependencies, I don't see any obvious killers. You linked to the Sid version, but ITOS2008 is closer to Lenny in terms of dependencies; there's an armel Lenny package available, with the following problems:

Needs: libsdl1.2debian >= 1.2.10-1
Have: libsdl1.2 1.2.8-23

Needs: libc6 >= 2.7-1
Have: libc6 2.5.0-1osso9

Needs: libgcc1 >= 1:4.3
Have: libgcc1 1:3.4.4cs2005q3.2-5.osso8

Needs: libstdc++6 >= 4.3
Have: libstdc++6 3.4.4cs2005q3.2-5.osso8

Note that those are all version-only troubles, which sometimes may be disregarded and have everything work; so you can try just grapping the package and installing it. But the right way is to just rebuild it in scratchbox or on the tablet; all dependencies are there, so I'll bet it's a clean build with no changes.

BTW, I don't know, really, but I'd not be at all concerned about the libc and libsdl ones; the compiler related ones, though, are likely to stop it from working with a direct install. I think it will need rebuilt, but there's not much harm in trying if you like...

Thanks for the response, Benson. I was hoping it was going to be easy enough that it would be like flipping a switch and someone would just say, "Great idea! Here you go!"

I need to learn how to program.
