Hello all - my N810 just arrived yesterday. It finds all of the nearby WiFi connections just as my laptop does, but connecting to any of the sources fails. The laptop will connect to any unlocked source, but not the n810.

Is there specific info or understanding I am missing, such as the n810 requires a stronger signal than my laptop in order to work?

I went to the local cafe and the same thing - the wifi signal strength there showed 50% but I could not connect there.

What is the deal, and how would I know I need to send this n810 back?

thanks

1. Exactly what error message do you get when you try to connect?

2. What do you mean by 50% power? I usually have no trouble with 2 bars out of 5..

3. Can you connect to your home wireless system? The N8X0 is fussy about the routers it connects to.

4. What firmware are you running? Check Control Panel > About Product and make sure you have version 2.2007.51-3.

If you use the cafe hotspot with your laptop, does it make a special web page appear on the browser before you can use it?

wseibert - Hi I get 2 different errors. Not connected: try again and also the Could Not get IP Address error message. I can connect at home if I go into wireless mode here but I usually do not have it set up. Thanks for the tip about firmware - it is version 1.2007-42.

Does that mean I am waayy behind and must flash the firmware?

Krisse - yes I got the T-mobile start page at the cafe. I take that to mean I can connect with no problems there.

I can confirm that signal strength does play a role in that I cannot connect to a weak wifi connection with the n810 but it is no problem with my laptop.

Is there a way to boost the receptivity of the nokia?

You're going to be reflashing anyway now that Diablo's out. It is amazing how many problems can be cured by a software update or simply rebooting
