Normally my fairly new N800 charges fully in about 2 hours and displays 10 days idle / 7 hours usage capacity.

With my normal usage pattern the battery lasts about 2-3 days.

Since yesterday the battery runs empty in just a few hours and takes forever (6 hours) to charge. Now it shows only 3 hours capacity when full (instead of normally 7).

The top of the device near the power button runs hot, even in idle mode. "internal-temp" from http://nitapps.com/ displays 37.25 °C.

I did not install anything yesterday. The last app I installed was Canola2.

When idle normally just Osso-Mail runs in the background, WiFi on and Bluetooth off.

I have long renamed the meta-crawler executable.

"top" does not show anything with excessive CPU usage.

I even tried setting WLAN to low transmission power, did not help.

Also rebooting did not help.

Does anybody have an idea what could be the cause?

Cheers, Kas.

Plug it in somewhere else?

Also, this might be an illusion. What your battery status shows can change radically in just seconds. How long your battery lasts depends radically on what you are doing. You can't have tested the 6-hour charging many times since yesterday.

My N800 charges for an hour in my office, but 5 hours are not enough in my home. Charger's the same. I didn't check, but probably the current is below standard levels.

UPDATE:

The problem is related to WiFi !!!

When I turn WiFi off the capacity shows 6 hours now, instead of 2 hours with WiFi on.

Funny thing is nothing at all changed with my WiFi setup here.

Maybe one of the neighbours got a new access point which is disturbing reception? There are about 20 access points visible from here.

This is a bit annoying because without WiFi the N800 is not really useful for me.
