As this is not the first time I encounter the error I have to ask. I just tried to install Pidgin and when I click on the "click to install" link on the OS2008 Nokia website or on the Maemo one, all I get is an "application package not found" I've browsed this site but could not find anything about this.

I assume I need to install either a certain catalogue or a specific application first but which one?

Help please?

I have a N810

What repositories are listed in your Application Catalogue?

If you click on a link on the Maemo site and get a message saying that the application pakage isn't found, I would say there is a problem with the Maemo site. Problems with the Maemo site are not unknown, though it has been pretty good lately. You could send someone a message about this, if you can determine from the area where you tried clicking the link who to send the message to.

No it's not. It's clearly a Chinook/Diablo distribution field issue. Most likely the same one that's been posted about about once every 20 minutes since Diablo was released, you know, the one with Extras. . . .

Buddy, the solution is in my post right above yours. Try searching a bit, it's only been mentioned in at least a dozen threads.

hi I had the same problem and after hours of searching I got it to work easily. I upgaded to os2008 Diablo and the new version of Pigdin 2.4.3. You need to create the catologue for it to upload the Pigdin software in the Apps Mgr. If you go to the software site for Pigdin

http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/pidgin/

then click on the homepage button you will get these instructions.
this is only for 2008 , there are links for 07/06 as well . I tried to click the link but did not work so I typed it and worked well

good Luck Jeff

You can install Pidgin on your Nokia Internet tablet with Application Manager.

Start Application Manager and choose "Tools → Application catalogue" from the menu
Click "New". Fill out the dialog that pops up as follows, depending on your OS:
Pidgin Internet Messenger
pidgin

Catalogue name: maemo Extras ( I named it Pigdin)
Web address: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/
Distribution: chinook
Components: free non-free

Then, click "OK". Click "Close" on the catalogue list as well. At this point, Application Manager will ask whether you want to refresh your catalogues. Refresh them.
On application manager's main screen, click "Browse installable applications". In the list that follows, find "instantmessaging" and click it.
From the list that appears, choose those parts of Pidgin that you wish to use. For each package, click "Install", and click "OK" on all subsequent messages.
Some Pidgin components require additional repositories. Below is a list of which components require which repositories:
