I love webcomics. I hate having to load the page every freaking time i press "next". So i found a method to downlaod all strips from webcomics half-automatically.
You need firefox with two plugins:
google images re-linker (dunno if this is necessary, a friend reported getting only thumbs without it)
downthemall

Go to the comic in question and get the proerties of a comic strip to see the URL of the directory the images are in. You will in 95% of the cases not be able to access directories directly, only xkcd lets you do this as far as i know. Use the directory URl thats as wide as possible without including directories with site images etc (for instance, the url might be site.com/images/comics/2008/07/, if so use up to and including /comics/ etc).

Go to images.google.com and do advanced search. putt the url into the "search this website only" box and search. This should list all comic strips of that comic. In ff, do tools -> downthemall! and select destination folder. If its working correctly it should have auto-selected the comic strips only. press ok, it will start downloading. go to the next result page, wait for it to completely load, and do tools -> dTa oneclick (technically you can do this the first time too but you should select where to save to). Repeat this with all result pages and it will simply add to the ongoing list of downloads each time you do dTa oneclick, and only download the comic strips. once its finished downlaoding you got them in the target folder. In about an hour doing this I got 1700 comic strips from 6 different webcomics on my tablet ready to go.

Why don't you just use Buoh?

You know, doing that can put a heavy load on their servers, so it's forbidden (and can wind you up with an IP ban) by some webcomics; I'd expect there's some sort of option in downthemall to slow the rate down to something reasonable, and if so, queuing them up and setting the rate to run all night is probably the polite thing...

bundyo,

Does Buoh work on Diablo? I used Buoh quite a bit on previous OS2008 and I miss it. It was so easy to add comic strips. I tried adding Buoh on Diablo and it says it needs libsoup 2.2-8(>=2.2.98). I don't like installing libs that are not in apps manager without first knowing if they will mess up my setup. TIA, Dan

Shouldn't mess stuff up, in general. It'll give you grief if it conflicts with an existing package. (I have no specific knowledge of Buoh or libsoup). It exists in Chinook extras, at least, so you could just add it through the package manager.

Mine works, dunno about that in Extras The one in extras can't remove the toolbar and doesn't have key mappings (though the last time i checked was quite a while ago).

I can try installing it in my other virgin Diablo if you wish

I haven't done any comic strip reading on my n800, but on my desktop I use dailystrips. I liked it much more than Buoh. I haven't looked to see if dailystrips is available for the n800. It's worth looking at.

Bundyo,

Can you please try. I have dual boot with KDE and Debian with Diablo OS.
I really would like to keep everything working. See if you need libsoup. TIA, Dan

I am running Diablo and I had to install the libsoup library to get Buoh working. So far I haven't seen any problems on my system as a result of adding the library.
