The charger port on my Nokia N800 seems to be broken, it will only charge if you spin it around a few times and prop it up at an angle. I think it probably has a broken soder point.

1) Has anyone else had this problem, if they have, how did they fix it?
2) Is there any other way to charge the N800, maybe via the mini usb port or an external charger for the battery?

Mine fell while charging a long time ago and i caused a similar problem: it lost some of the spring effect that makes good contact with the plug (I doubt it is a solder point since the socket isn't soldered).
I used a needle to carefully pull the negative contact in the socket and put a tiny amount of foam behind it (if you put too much the plug won't enter at all)

Do I have to take it apart to do that?

I have the same problem. Mine will only charge with headphones plugged in and at an angle.

I found this- http://cgi.ebay.com/Desktop-Battery-...6.c0.m14.l1318

I'm going to order that and an extra battery. Thanks for the responses.

Try with a different charger -- I had a dirt-cheap third-party wall charger that worked for a while, then went intermittent as the socket (inside the plug) lost it's springiness. It's possible that a Nokia charger could fail that way, though mine hasn't yet.

If it makes good contact with another charger, then it's the $10 charger, not the $100 tablet, and you can avoid any desperate tweaks that could damage the tablet and plug it in to charge again...

I have the same problem. I've dropped my Nokia N800 a couple times thanks to the stupid case it comes with and my own carelessness. But I think what really damaged my power port was when I tripped over the power cord. It put enough strain on the port that it bent the male portion that inserts in the port. But I guess if it's not actually soldered to the board then it wouldn't damage the port itself but the wll charger. I'm getting a usb charger for in a couple days so I guess I'll find out. But I was wondering if any people who have experienced this problem also had any issues with their usb port. I've been having issues with the random "USB Device not supported" message coming up and I haven't been able to get my device successfully connected to my computer. USB Host also doesn't seem to be working either, although I've never actually had that work bfore. Anyway, all this seemed to start happening at the same time so I'm thinking it might be related.

Just wanted to leave an update. I got my USB charger and it's also not charging unless I play with it. So I guess I'll have to attempt something luca did, although I don't see how you could fit anything in there. Luca, did you have to take it apart? Also, the USB host issue wasn't related to the charging issue. I wasn't setting up the USB host correctly.

No, I didn't take it apart. I used a needle to force the negative pole (the narrow strip of metal on one side of the border of the socket) toward the centre pin (don't overdo it, it could break). Since it had lost the spring effect, inserting the plug would push it back, so, with the same needle, I pushed a tiny amount of foam beneath.
Too much foam and the plug won't fit, to little and it won't push enough to make good contact.
Though it worked for me it may not work for you.
Oh, and while doing this operation, once the needle slipped and I slightly scratched the case. Not a big issue but it's just to tell you that you have to be careful.

Buying new battery charger like you are doing is best bet or you might burn your house down. Look at the att Quickfire(no joke its the real name) they just recalled for that reason.
