This has always seemed like common sense to me, but I have never seen it implemented
and seeing as how responsive and wonderful the openbossa team have been, I figure id atleast suggest it
at the very least id like to know why its not possible

The situation is like this
Im listening to song a, by artist a on album a
I want to finish listening to the entire song, but when it is complete, instead of song b by artist a, I want to listen to song x by artist x

normally I have two options, as far as I am aware
a. wait until the song is over, and scroll over and select that song
b. make a playlist

but what id love to see is a "play next" feature
meaning when a song is selected as such, it will queue up and play next followed by whatever song would normally follow song x

now maybe this is just me loving (near) seamless listening and this is just a pipedream

but its something that I would really love to see

I know there are playlists on teh fly, but normally I dont want to bother with all that, I just want to finish the song thats playing, and then switch to another after its completed

would this be hard to do?

have you tried mediabox? i think it has that "feature" where after the last song on the playlist it plays the next song in the album where that song belongs..

thats a step in the right direction, but not entirely the dream
Id just like to declare what song I want to listen to after the current one, have this one finish and then continue onto the one I asked for as though it would normally follow
plus I love canola, so Id hate to have to use another program

not in any PMP that I know, but foobar has this. You just right click on the next song you want to play and select "add to playback queue".

I'm pretty sure mpd supports this. It's just a matter of your client supporting it as well

Hi Guys!

Well, to be honest is was not THAT easy in the old Canola, so when designing Canola2, me and Barbieri (the lead developer, but he left the company : /) discussed a lot about this, what you just said ; insert one or a couple of list in a current queue, no matter which one.

So that was exactly my wish to Barbieri in that time:

"Dude I want to be able to, when I am in Random mode - shuffle all songs - to dynamically insert musics in the sequence. Can we do that?"

of course he asked me all the possible drawbacks, and said if I want to do that without the UPNP / podcasts it was simpler. So we decided to add that feature to our Queue.

The only thing drawing us back was that: he left, and we were still fighting against the basic playlist (that should be first) so this insert in the dynamic playlist was thought, the infrastructure can support it without major changes (AFAIK - and I trust Barbieri's word) and If possible we will experimentally add this on beta 10. if not Beta 11 will have it for sure. I promise.

This is really a must and I havent used a pmp with this also.

The question now is going to be: how to do that without creating a floating menu to the hold song and add to playlist :? ": ) but this is my problem as UX designer right? lol I love giving myself real trouble!

again, that's the beauty of designing with the users. I will be honest I don't follow 100% of the wishes and requests, but I do rank them, so when something starts popping out too much, its a signal that it needs to be there and it will benefit more than just a niche.

sometimes we need to cut stuff, but having the idea confirmed by the real users or being able to listening and understanding their needs in real world is priceless for a good design.

Canola is far beyond of being a excellent PMP, but I believe we do have a nice relationship with our users, and we try to get the best of it in favor of the planned experience for the software!

BR from Brazil, and I am officially back from Vacations!

News: You're are going to see Mperes (miguel Peres) a lot more here. As we are working in several things, and I am heading Canola3, miguel is going to take over the Canola2 stuff progressively so feel free to talk a lot to him in private messages when needed

The way I always imagined it was just as on a ipod or zune or whathave you when you go to look at other songs, you select one, it gives the option to play now or whatever, I just imagined on this menu a "play next" option

I remember QuodLibet having such a feature. Actually it was a queue which you could fill with songs. When a song ended it took the next song from the queue if one was there.

In MediaBox I want to integrate similar functionality into the playlist component.
