I've been searching for an answer to the possibility of adding a 16GB or even a 32GB memory card into the N800, can that be achieve without damaging the device, as I have read a number of posts that suggest 8GB max.

Ideally I would love to have 32GB on each of the expansion slots. I would like to use it as storage, music, videos, docs, etc. That would replace having to carry the N800 and my ipod video.

I've been using a 32GB card in my 800 for ~6 weeks now. Works great and haven't had any trouble with it. I'll probably add another later on. I'm not sure where you saw the 8GB max, but there are many people here that have been using 16GB cards for awhile now without any problems either.

Thanks for the quick replies, 16GB on each of the explansion slots!!! 32GB on each slot would be ideal, but costly, at over $250 a card, and 64GB (I understand how you feel italodance)!

Is there any additional software or upgrades I need to do to the N800 for this added storage, other than shelling out the dough and popping it in the slots?

Thanks.

nope - they work out of the box.
the only reason there was an "8 gb" misunderstanding was that that was the max limit for sd (HC) cards at the time.

Any SDHC card should work with the N800 (and also regular SD cards - but they only go up to 2 or 4 gb).

Here just for you, under $99, 160G, portable, not an SD card, this is kind of tricky to push this into your SD slot. I have not tried .

If you use Win XP to access the high capacity card sometimes, you do need to download a driver from M$. Otherwise it won't be recognized. BTW my memory is kind of rusty, but haven't we all downloaded Fanush's patch to do the same thing on nxx?

Huh? Community SDHC support was provided back in the early OS2007 days, but it's been provided officially by Nokia since around June last year.

Old stock firmware did not do SDHC, requiring Fanoush's kernel; I think that was 770s and maybe some old N800s. All recent firmware supports SDHC out-of-box.

Happily rocking 16GB here. (Actually 2x 16GB right now, because I've got my camera's card in, too.)

Oh yeah, we all remember that one: The Amazing Card-eating Nokia Upgrade.
