Those depencies are optional. You can build cmus without most of the depencies listed in debian package, but then you will lose support for some file types.

exactly.

i think, libvorbis and libmad - it's enough.

Ironically, I also compiled most of them for xmms :-/

If someone else does not, I'll do it using [libao], libasound2, libtremor/libvorbisidec (integer stuff), libmad.
