all linux based things are very new to me so i hope someone have a solution to this.
since i bougth my N810 i've been unable to install applications trough the application manager, i can't update the catalogs, i can't do anything with it except to get it running...i check similar problems and their solutions in this forum but none of them work.
i tried "apt-get clean" for example and got this message:

E: Could not open lock file /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the download directory

i really have no idea of what to do, i already put it through the update wizard twice and i fixed the memory bug...any suggestions???

thanks for the reply....i've read the info form the link you send and i do understand it, but there's another problem...it seems that i can't install absolutly nothing and acording to you instrucction i have to install OpenSSH (client and server) but my application manager shows this message:

Unable to download openshh.
aplication package not found.

i also tried downloading the file from maemo first and then use the apt-manager to install it but the same, the other thing that happens is that it shows the "preparing for instalation, please wait" window and it keeps loading and after a long time it show the same message.

so i try to update it but the application manager's log shows:

hildon-aplication-manager 2.1.16
apt-worker: terminating 1885 to get lock
E: Failed to fetch http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com..././Release.gpg Could not...

i have the "Nokia System software Updates catalogue" and "maemo extras catalogue" enable, but the log show a message next to both that says "failed to update".

any new suggestion?

If everything fails you could reflash. Make a backup of your files to the SD card with the backup function if needed.

You will need root access to remove that file. Your only choice at this point is to do a backup and reflash.

How do you figure? It looks to me like he just needs to update the repositories again, then he can install rootsh and be on his way.

Yeah, reflashing is a bit excessive solution.

If updating repositories doesn't work, do the following so we can see where the problem is.

1. Update repositorys (button on lower right corner)
2. Tools->Log-Save As and send log here
3. open xterm type 'cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list' and send output here

ok i've tried updating the repositories but nothing happens....so i cheked the log as you said and this is what appears on the display:

E: Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/extras/d...lo/Release.gpg Could not connect to repository.maemo.org:80(1.0.0.0), connection timed out
E: Failed to fetch http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com..././Release.gpg Could not connect to catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com:80(1.0.0.0), connection timed out

then i moved on to number 3 opened xterm and typed 'cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list' and the output was:

deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ diablo free non-free
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/updates/diablo/ ./

and nothing else...i've tried installing open ssh again just in case and i still have the same problem...i also tried updating only the "Nokia System software Updates catalogue" just to see if maybe "maemo extras" was blocking the update but just like before...so what are my options?
