Vonage is a closed network, unless they have added generic SIP recently.

Little bit offtopic, sorry...

Yeah... that's why I just ditched Vonage and switched to another VoIP provider... and also saved money in monthly cost! Now I have option to put my home phone SIP info into IT and use it on the go, for example.

Since talking about VoIP, I'm now working on putting all my SIP accounts into mysipswitch, so that using one physical phone (or IT) I can be reached with many VoIP networks, as well as make calls using any VoIP provider. I'm working on a custom call plan where I just dial the regular phone number and the call plan will pick up the best (cheapest) provider for the call automatically.

I didn't have any "problems" with Vonage, other than high price and locked network/devices.

I did go with Viatalk, which offer 1 years of unlimited calling service for less than $200. (It is one year plan, but they give other year free... so you really pay less than $100/year. That is a deal!) They have BYOD plan, where you can use your own SIP hardware.

In addition to the base charge they will charge some E911 fees that increase the monthly bill about $1/month... I haven't received my first monthly bill yet so I do not know how much it is exactly...

Other than that I have been rather satisfied. The only problem I have with the service is that the caller ID doesn't work on older Grandstream ATA's (HT-286/386/486, for example). I did open a support ticket for that, but they have not been very helpful on figuring out what is the problem. On Grandstream HT-502 it works fine.

I just checked vonage and they seem to have this vonage talk alpha which one can download on a pc, wonder if that would be able to work with the IT.

Interesting... but knowing Vonage they do everything they can to keep it locked to their hardware or softphones.

here is the link

http://alpha.vonage.com/vtalk

just tried it and can access my vonage account on my oc just as if at home with the same account and no additional line or softphone to get. The only thing as you mentioned stuck on the pc, would be nice if something like this can be worked out for the tablet.

Ok, Guys...this **** works...well sort off.
You have to get a softPhone line from vonage.

on rrtcomm setup a new SIP account...

user name: 17773335525@sphone.vopr.vonage.net
password: the password vonage supplies to you.

Here is where am at...I called my number..it rings then I answer it..then it hangs up on me.

Working progress...I'll post updates.

ok...I think Vonage is blocking my tablet.
I'll confirm with them.

It doesn't make sence to sell me a sip # that I could only use on my computer.
