With any luck though, it will be able to charge this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3060

Then I can charge my tablet from that (who knows, if there are regulators internal to the battery case, I can daisy chain them).

I ordered one of the solar panels, should get it this week.

Hi,

I got the solar panel in the mail today. It has an internal circuit board that I assume contains a voltage regulator so I think that the output quoted in the specs is for the solar panel itself, not the USB connector. Unfortunately it's raining so I can't verify yet.

I measured an unloaded max output of 5.68 Volts today. Also, even in full sunlight, there appears to be a duty cycle of 5 seconds on/3 seconds off. It doesn't take too much sun to output voltage, I was able to charge a Treo through a window.

So I tried this solar panel on an N810. It appeared to charge, but the duty cycle of on 5 sec/off 3 sec caused the screen to be permanently on and the charging notification (pop up and sound) to appear every 8 seconds. Unless the notifications and screen can be turned off in software, this charger isn't the greatest for the tablet.

Hopefully the battery I ordered will take care of the duty cycle. We'll see.

At that rate, it's quite possible the screen and sound wind up draining more than it charges.

You can set the screen delay as low as 1 second with gconftool, but then the screen will just keep time with the sound; not much improvement.
