Um... Search first?

And... Archos is Open Source? That's a rather surprising development

quick guess is that they use the linux kernel and some other stuff to make the development time shorter, but on top of that have their own proprietary ui toolkit and stuff doing the actual user accessed stuff.

that way they can be compliant to GPL and also have their cake.

kinda like how nokia have done their "differencing"...

It is NOT open source. Even if it runs on some type of *nix, it is not open source. They patch up any holes that lead to the device's freedom.

gah, what a silly page layout.

to get the iso link, one had to click on the "notice of GNU GPL" button, that says nothing about there being a link further down.

and yes, that iso probably holds source code. but it would not surprise me that the real meat, the interface, codecs and drivers, are not under GPL and therefor not found on the iso.

remember, QT is dual licensed. archos could just get a license from trolltech, and not having to disclose anything interface related.

btw, same page in english:

"The products listed below include some Free Software programs which are copyrighted by the Free Software Foundation and others and published under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and Lesser General Public License (LGPL).
In compliance with the GPL and LGPL, we provide the source code of these programs for download."

... The keyword is "some"

EDIT: About 95% of the iso is full with this:
