There is no direct tab key but you can bind it to any key combo you like - search the forums for xmodmap.

You can always send a _real_ tab character: control-i

Control and I pushed together? This doesn't work on mine, unless I am misunderstanding you.

How do I edit the RX-44 file? Xmod-map seems like I have the potential to do a lot of damage for little gain.

Into what application are you sending this tab?

For example, "notes" seems to ignore the tab completely. But that doesn't mean the keyboard isn't sending one.

The following does work:
  1. Open Xterm
  2. type "ls My"
  3. press ctrl, press i, release i, release ctrl

It should auto-complete into "ls MyDocs/"

So, that would support the idea that the keyboard is sending a tab, but that some applications (such as "notes") ignore it.

You may do a lot of damage by editing the RX-44 file and doing it wrong.
With xmodmap you are at most a reboot away from the standard keyboard settings, if something is wrong.

The "Chr" key brings up brings up special characters. The default selected is Tab.
