Are there compilers like g++ available for the n810?
what are the options and what can I use to edit source code files with, does the built in note program add in any formatting on the text that I enter or can I use it for editing source code files?

you can edit files on the device itself by using pygtkeditor from khertan
it supports formatting for multiple languages.

as for compilers, I use gcc directly on the device everyday, g++ is available as well.
There are some things which limit exactly what you can compile and run however.

You cannot easily run the "configure" stage of mature packages, and there is no easy way to get the dpkg-* programs running.

with the cpu running in its default state, compilation is fairly sluggish, but can also be sped up somewhat to make incremental builds practical.

to get at the correct repository for these tools, you must obtain the binaries from the maemo SDK repository (same one that scratchbox uses)

actually I prefer just a normal editor without syntax highlighting, etc, is there something like nano?

Yes, there is nano as well as vi, but in both i had some problems with the key combinations used to control the commands, so i usually use leafpad.

To get most programs, visit http://www.gronmayer.com/it/ on ur NIT and then type the desired program name on the right. Then, install a feed from the results by pressing the green install button to make the required program (among others) available in ur applications manager.
