Have you tried reflashing the NIT?
If you're using Windows, there's Nokia's GUI tool:

, and if you're using Linux or Mac, there's a command line tool:

To get rid of the nitdroids filesystem, you can use maemo filemanagers "format memorycard" option. If you are running linux or mac you can also flash only the kernel. That means you don't need to overwrite all the stuff you have in maemo.
