I'm not sure where all my space went. My / partition currently looks like this:

/dev/mtdblock 4 249.5M (total) 245.3M (used) 4.2M (free) 98%

I don't have a lot of apps installed. Canola, Carman, the GPE suite, mytube, mplayer, pidgin, skype, and some tiny stuff like rootsh and advanced backlight.

I'm not sure where all my space went.

I have an 8gig card in my N810 that I keep all my media on.

Where can I look to clean stuff out. Before I did a restore of the device from the flasher after screwing things up by having WAY to many repositories and playing around I can't even get the same amount of apps I had on before.

That amount of apps with all their dependencies are most likely the reason. Not sure, but I think Canola stores stuff in your home directory (/home/user/.canola?) so that may take some space as well. If you need more space, you should try booting from the memory card. You can also run something like this in xterm to see what directories are taking space:

I cleaned out my /var/cache/apt directories, and those commands got me no additional space back.

Before I did the OS flash I had more apps installed and still had more space left. I'd rather not boot from a flash card just to keep things simple (I like to pop it out to copy stuff from my windows machine).

No egrep installed so that command won't work.

Really? It should come with busybox by default and it worked when I tried it.
