I'm thinking of picking up a 770 for a little project that requires WPA2. Can someone confirm whether or not the 770 supports WPA2 for wireless? The Nokia guides on their website and wiki suggests WPA2 is not an option but google searches that brought me to this forum suggests it is an option. And if it is an option, is it only on the hacker versions or is it in the 2006 too?

Thanks.

I'm 99% sure I've used my 770 with WPA2.

Thanks Mullf, are you recalling from memory or is this something you can verify by just pulling out your 770? What OS were you using? I just want a definite answer before I spend my money. The last thing I need is a device I can't use and being out the funds to get a replacement device.

I don't have a home network anymore, so I can't test it now, but unless I had it set up wrong when I did, it worked fine with WPA2. OS2007HE.

I know for certain OS2006-OS2008HE support WPA2, can't comment on OS2005.

The options in Connections->Infrastructure for my Nokia 770 running OS2006.49-2 are:

None
WEP
WPA pre-shared key
WPA with EAP

I've tested WPA2 on OS2006/OS2007HE/OS2008HE - working.
There is a checkbox in advanced options for connection "use WPA2 only".

Thanks for your replies. I did end up buying the 770.

In terms of WPA2, I found out a little more. At a VERY (I've leaving out a lot) basic level:
WPA-PSK = TKIP for encryption required (AES encryption is option)
WPA2-PSK = AES for encryption required (TKIP is option) + further optimizations and standards for commerical applications

So the 770 really only supports WPA, but with WPA2 level encryption. However, it doesn't support the entire suite of optimizations that comes with WPA2. Unless you're pushing a lot of data (not going to happen with the 770) or hooking it up with a non-SOHO router, you probably won't notice it.
