Hi Forum - Is there an anagram solver app for the N800. Or, is there a feature in 'stardict' that can 'solve' anagrams??

Hope you can help.

thanks

Dude! Are you serious?

An anagram is a type of word play, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce a new word or phrase, using all the original letters exactly once; e.g., orchestra = carthorse, Eleven plus two = Twelve plus one, A decimal point = I'm a dot in place.

I would say "search" but that would be too obvious.

But as for an anagram solver. I am not aware of any but I am sure some of the fine people around here might be able to be of more help. Although there is one anagram solver that I like to use: It's called "your brain".

Thanks(?) 'verumgero'. I DID use the 'search', it was my first port of call. I'm not going to comment on your last sentence, because I want to keep it civil .

As for the previous 'poster(?)', well.....

So, apart from the attemps at 'urhoum', does anybody else have any ideas?

I recommend http://www.fourmilab.ch/anagram/ because I've used it before and it has the options I required. Unfortunately I don't have SDK installed so I cannot compile it for you. But I know it is portable.

You could also run it on a Linux or Windows server and SSH to that computer then let that computer do the tough work.

You might get false positives though because small words ('esoteric') are also included. This anagram finder finds all anagrams based on specified dictionary and certain boolean flags you can opt for. No way an average brain can find/solve anagrams as fast as this program.

There is also an and wordplay. Maybe you can grab these from some old Debian/ARM(el) version. Not sure.

I wasn't trying to uncivil with the comment about using your brain. Anagrams are puzzles and isn't the point of a puzzle to figure it out? Doesn't it kind of kill the purpose if we just use a program to give you the answers? I suppose I just think that it takes the fun out of it if I know I can just plug in a few words and get a list of the answers. Just my opinion I guess.
