A while ago, VDVsx started pushing for the idea of maemo's involvement in the Google Summer of Code.
over the last couple of months we have had project ideas come in from numerous places.

Google have today announced that 10 projects have been selected and students have been paired off with mentors.

the students and their projects:
Code:
Max Usachev - Mnemosyne for Maemo
Zachary Habersang - Liqbase Framework Development and Application Implementation
feng gao - Semantic-Based Context-aware Personalized News reader System for Maemo
Lauri Vősandi - BitTorrent plugin for Canola
Andrey Popelo - Remember The Milk plugin for Canola
Amit Sethi - Barcode scanner and Shopping Assistant
andrei mirestean - Picasa plugin for Canola
thiago borges abdnur - IM Client For Canola Using Python-purple
kasun herath - Twitter application and Twitpic support for Canola.
Kirtika Ruchandani - Integrating Maemo in Open Embedded(OE) - Creating a 'maemo image' in OE for the N800/N810
a big thank you to everyone who submitted to the process.

on a personal nore, I am so pleased Zach is going to be helping me this summer.
If anyone else wants to get involved and lend me a hand you know where to contact me

Great news! Congratulations to everybody involved in this success.

As a way to support these projects, students, mentors and related developers willing to meet and work face to face have priority being accepted as sponsored participants in the Mozilla-Maemo Danish Weekend (ITt thread)

Also, Planet Maemo should welcome these developers, don't you think? In Planet GNOME this worked relatively well getting new developers in the community still after the Summer...
