I just received a used Nokia 770 I purchased from eBay. I really like the unit which appears to be recently purchased (6/06) from Comp USA. The screen appears to have a crystal sheen to it and I wasn't sure if this is normal. It is completely legible, but whites don't look completely white. I have never seen one in person and am not sure if this is how it should look due to the touch screen. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The moire effect is normal, yes. Using it in bright sunlight will produce a bit of a rainbow effect moreso. It's basically an effect caused by sandwiching layers of plastic together for the screen surface, touchscreen, backscreen, etc.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease. I have a touchscreen laptop and the Moire is not as noticable. It appears other colors are fine, but white is the most visible. Anyone in downtown Los Angeles have a Nokia 770 that wouldn't mind meeting up to compare and give me some pointers.

You'll appreciate the moiré when you watch movies on your 770. It really makes them look great, as if they're projected on a real cinema screen.

Well, that's what I think anyway...

It has to do with the touchscreen resolution--this is why you don't have the same effect on the Palms. Likewise, the much larger screen on the Laptop and subsequent lesser resolution gives you much less of a pattern effect. Someone posted a while back that they saw the 770 screen without the touch-screen layer and it was stunningly vivid. No, don't go there--you need the touchscreen.

I appreciate all the feedback. I have read quite a few threads and opinions on the screen and glitter. I guess it's something to get used to. I also notice a slightly blocky gradiation in colors in the Ice Age 2 video and pictures from a digital camera are not quite as vibrant. Is this normal and attributed to the 64K colors? I guess I am spoiled comparing this to a Nokia E61, which has a brilliant screen with 16 million colors. Lower res and not touch screen though.
