This was a project I started some years ago, I wanted to do a cross-platform billiards game. As I'm not a programmer, I was to be responsible solely for the art direction and graphics.

Now that I've got an N800 I think it'd be a great game for the tablets. Is anyone interested in helping out?

http://pool4all.sourceforge.net/

Potential Features:
- skinnable graphics (users could create their own)
- different game types (8 ball and 9 ball in initial release)
- AI computer
- maybe multiplayer (i.e. a user on their N8x0 and a user on their PC?)

I don't have anything to offer in terms of helping with programming or anything but I will say that I think that is is exactly the type of game that would do well on this platform... That is, a graphics supported, non shoot-em up type game.

This is the kind of thing that found it's way into the Palm OS platform and did well even though there was a high pricepoint on it. It was not uncommon to pay $19.95 for a game of this type.
I'm glad to see you are doing this.

Come to think of it, are there any card games on Maemo?

Pool for Maemo is an existing, functioning game. It's a little slow, and the physics seem a little off. But it works.

It's very slow and has no where near the polish this project would have. Just because it works does not make it desirable. It has to perform well. We gotta reach farther man.

Interesting. But I can't find the code, so I can't say if it's an easy job or nearly-impossible.

Are you referring to Pool 4 All? There was no code ever, I couldn't get a team together. So this project would be from scratch. The images are just concepts of the graphic design.

It has reached farther than "pool 4 all", since "pool for maemo", actually exists and is not vaporware as "pool 4 all". Right now "pool 4 all" has no polish, as it does not exist

Agreed. But don't knock the competition until you are ready to compete. At the very least, look at the code and see what you can use. (The wonders of FOSS).

I thought Open Source Software wasn't about competition, especially free where nobody is profiting. I'm referring to polish as far as the aesthetics/graphics of it.

Huh...

Another cool feature would be to make your own game rules. Man I'd love that.
