I'm presently in London staying at a hostel. The hostel has free wi-fi with the standard WEP key. The N770 finds the SID fine and I can select it. The WEP key is entered and the negotiations start. It doesn't complete however and no connection is established.

Most laptop users seem to be okay. I asked another person and his laptop was fine but his iPhone wasn't.

Any ideas? I'm really hankering to try Gizmo5 and Skype.

Thanks!

I saw something similar a few years back trying to use hotel wifi with my 770. Not sure if this is something specific to the chipset or the driver. Might be worth a browse of the 770 bugs in the bugtracker to see if it's a known issue.

I've moved onto Mykonos, Greece, and have yet to try the wi-fi again... it's a bit more pricey for wi-fi versus the terminal...

Well, I finished my trip and wherever I could find a solid connection with wi-fi for the N770, it performed well: using the browser to check Gmail (basic mode working better than normal mode), booking hostels, booking a Eurostar ticket, making VOIP calls with Skype and making/receiving VOIP calls with the Gizmo5/Google Voice combo.

Hardware:

N770
3mm headphones
3mm microphone (compatible with iPod Touch) (found that built-in mic was fine though)
Palm blue tooth keyboard (for typing long emails)
external battery charger (purchased online)
extra battery (purchased online)

Software:

OS2007HE, 4.2008.7-1
MicroB (for better web browsing)
Skype (for VOIP)
Gizmo Project(Voice & IM) (for VOIP)

Installed Applications list:

becomeroot (needed for installing Skype)
gizmo-project (Gizmo5)
libuiw
load-applet
microb-browser
ncurses-base
osso-xterm (needed for installing Skype)
skype-ui (needed for installing Skype)
ttf-bitstream-vera
vim (needed for installing Skype)

Main gripes were speed and battery life, of course...
