I live in the Ny/ nj usa area and was wondering are there any local community events. And how would I go about meeting with members in my area?

Can you swim?

I don't think there has been a community event on this side of the Atlantic yet...

I'm all for one in NYC. I know of a venue on W 48th where I have attended or hosted 25 -75 people forum meet-ups in the past. October is a good time of year but is pro'ly to soon and to close to a launch date for the N900. (Actually this week-end would have been fabulous. The Feast of San Genaro in Little Italy is always a pleasant diversion. )

Late March and early April are also good times of the year. Maybe we should revisit this thread to start planning after the first of the year.

I don't think he means major Maemo community events, but ones that are local, much like Linux has local user groups all over the world.

I think the Linux user groups are probably your best place to go at the moment.

Also check the various Symbian groups. Many of them will be migrating to Maemo, and may start having Meetups for those users. Not sure about NY/NJ, but check Meetup.com for any Linux or Maemo groups. I'm pretty sure there's one in your area. Maemo may become the most popular Linux OS if this goes commercially well, so Maemo will surely be a part of most Maemo groups soon.

Yeah, I tried to get a Linux Device User Group going a while back but it turned out to be too much work for one person.

I originaly hit "Submit Reply" instead of "Preview Post" by mistake... you and christexaport posted while I was in edit mode.

Sorry for any confusion kryptoniankid17. As I said a NYC meet in the spring might be nice.

If you guys ever wanted to meet in Washington D.C. I'd be up for that. (NYC is a bit to far for me to travel. =P)

Back in the early days of the internet, we used to do this quite often on various tech sites. It was a lot of fun, but typically involved a lot of driving to do it, unless of course you were in a major city like New York or DC. >.<
