I'm not a heavy gamer, but I don't mind throwing some time into a game both me and my girlfriend can enjoy (as a spectator).

And hey, I get a bluray player out of it... Score!

Mine's just had it's 2nd birthday, lovely piece of kit. I see the blu-ray excuse for buying one still goes

And I'm pretty damn psyched for Uncharted 2, had it on preorder for months. Had a go with the beta and actually had to remind myself a few times that it wasn't real (yes, I had to use the old cliché ). Oh, and don't bother with Linux, it's incredibly restricted, and subsequently friggin' useless.

Isn't this mean? :P
By the way,As a suggestion why you dont consider getting PC (AMD + some good ATI card) = will get you better gaming pc and more value per money. Now days, a PC game of any ported console game on it is having a much better graphics and remember you aren't limited to a part of hardware or leaking in updatability and getting a PS3/Xbox360 gamepad is enough.

If you are worried about blue-ray I think you can find it nowdays for some $100 and you always can add this as a upgrade when you find a nice for it for even less.

Speaking about myself, I am now more into PC gaming so I made pc for a moderate gaming, still didn't spent more than 7 hours for gaming (that was few months back). I would be lucky if I had the time to play a tetris on my cell phone :\

Watch your mouth MR! People won't realize that you are meaning Linux + PS3 = Bad idea (In respect to performance)

I went from PC gaming to consoles. In the end I really don't care about better graphics or performance, and I was terrible with identifying the right time to upgrade my desktop.

Not to mention there were games that you would never get to play on the PC due to exclusivity to that platform.

You are right, this reminds me of Mortal Kombat , Gods of war and few others. I know that I will never see some of my fav games on PC. I might get a ps3 on the summer (Mainly because I will have some free time + playing with Kratos (God Of War 3) is one of my todo list in gaming)

The new PS3 won't even run Linux...

And you cannot pirate games. I like to download a game and try it out without wasting a DVD. If it is good I'll buy it, cause else can't play multiplayer (and Hamachi etc is too much exclusive).

Yeah, PC gaming is definately The most expensive gaming platform nowadays, and people generally pay for it to get 2 things:

- Mouse + Keyboard control scheme
- Ability to multitask on the same screen + keyboard with your games.

I don't think it's worth it to keep up with PC upgrades anymore. I used to throw money down that drain..

PS: I don't buy the "I hate x because I can't trial it first, thus I pirate stuffs off torrent\blockbuster\friends" argument. Games aren't the only medium without a consistent "Try before you buy" scheme, and there are enough means to learn about the contents without pirating it: all sorts of reviews from print media\net\forums\friends. There's also a decent second-hand market for games, in case you don't want it anymore too.

I thought you could pirate games on the PS3. But that it was juat harder and not worth the time. (most homebrew software for playing pirated games come from homebrew as a reaction to companies locking them out of the hardware. I think the PS3 was never as bad as the Wii and 360 mostly because of Linux, no need to hack around the system to run custom software)

As for try before buy, more companies are getting better @ putting demos. Though Sony charges companies for doing it.

I'm planning on getting a PC, but a notebook (the HP envy 13 -- which is mad expensive, but damn gorgeous and incredibly well rounded). It's not a heavy gaming machine, but it'll allow me to do the work that I want, plus some light FPSs if I so chose.

For $299US, the PS3 slim is a steal and far cheaper than a full on PC. No linux? No problem. I have too many devices that run linux already, and soon to include a phone (hint: rhymes with Ben-sign-run-head). To be honest, aside from my workstation, server, and NIT, I needn't any more linux!

The thing that most interests me about the PC is nVidia 3D vision. I think gaming in 3D would be a wild experience, but at present, it's quite expensive (pc, glasses, monitor == $1500 - $2000). With the push for 3D tvs and the like, I'm sure that consoles will soon upgrade a dimension.

Also, I prefer to buy my wares. I play on and off, so it's not too expensive. Plus, I consume only quality titles (reviews, credible recommends, etc), so the cost is well worth it.

So PS3, here I come!
