Hey all,

I pre-ordered an N900 (coming from s60 devices) and I was wondering what video formats does the N900's Web-browser play?

It does:

Full Flash 9.4, but what else? Can it display Wmv, avi.. etc? in the browser?

I really hope that it does play windows media videos in the browser since there's quite a lot of sites that embeds wmv videos.

Also can someone install "plugins" for the web-browser.. like lets say the browser doesn't play divx videos.. can someone create an installable "plugin" that will add divx support on the browser? (Just like how you can do the same thing on the PC)?

Thanks in advance,

BaNdOrA

P.S.: YAYYYY My first post! >)) Gosh I wish I learned a lot more about linux when I had the chance to.. (I always thought what am I going to use it for).. but I guess I was wrong.. lool

Heya & welcome to the forum!
http://maemo.nokia.com/features/media-player/ says
"Watch MP4, WMV, and Avi videos directly on your device".

The n810 browser opens the video in the video player I think, so probably the n900 does the same. It all works though,

I can imagine for some situations it would be nice if WMV, AVI files etc. can display embedded in a webpage, like Flash videos can. I don't know if the Maemo 5 browser does this already, but to answer the OP's question, yes, plugins can be developed if needed.

If anybody can provide an example URL this could be tested by people that have a N900.

You cannot play AVI clips in any web browser. Embedded WMV still very common solution for some sites and they can be probably played back using things like mplayerplug-in.

AVI, MP4, etc. will probably just enter to download queue.

Actually, I think you can play some AVI files in browser, but that requires DiVX Web Player. See: http://beta.vreel.net/

Ah ok.. And good news that people can develop Player plugins for Maemo (since I've been and still am a user of S60; I wish this kind of thing is avalable in S60)... That's why I had this question in mind since there's no way to add more compatible formats onto the web-browser.. And again if this is possible on Maemo that's a HUGE selling point for me..

Looks like it's Java based, so not out of the box.

Surely it would be better to run that on an emulator for the console it was originally written for anyway.
