Hi all,

By way of intro, I work for Maemo in Mountain View California, and have been working on the initial set of applications for the N900 (not the community stuff). Obviously, we had some challenges to get things ready before the device was officially announced. We are working on getting some more really cool apps with Nokia partners.

However, I'd be interested in getting some comments on the stuff thta is already available - what you like and what do you not like.

thanks,
John

Even though the selection is pretty small at this moment, all apps there seem to be very high quality ones.

About the themes and wallpapers, what will there be in future? Official Nokia-sanctioned themes and wallpapers or "best of community" -ones? And is there any way for developers to get their apps in the Nokia Select? Like the best and most useful community apps or something along that line?

You mean those at http://maemo.nokia.com/maemo-select/applications/ ?

@jouppu: we will be getting more apps in the future, these are the first batch. We are also working on themes and wallpapers. For stuff from the community, I would assume we would follow the same process for apps, thought I would need to check.

@pelago: Yes those ones (minus the Fremantle Stars).

Amazon Widget
Not very useful. Too simple should have more options.
I would give it 6 in 10 because it has nice graphics.

AP Mobile news widget
Nice idea. It’s simple but useful. There should be other news agencies for people that don’t see themselves in AP approach.
I’ll give it a 7.

Bounce Evolution
Amazing game. Incredible graphics. More like these one needed.
10 points.

Documents To Go Viewer Edition
This is a very useful program. It’s a pity that you can create doc on this one. If this is linux why not open office?
I’ll give it an 8

eCoach application
I like this one. You can add a few more screens to the presentation.
8

Evernote
Don’t like this one.
I prefer that to do all this things without going online. I don’t see the point.
A waste of time.
3

Facebook widget
Very useful. Too simple should have more options. You can add a few more screens to the presentation.
7

ForecaWeather widget
Very useful. You can add a few more screens to the presentation.
8

Fring
Very useful. Graphics are better of other platforms. Ask them to make it better, because they know how to do it.
Personally I prefer nimbuzz. When will they make a maemo version?
6

Mauku
Nice and usefull.
7

OMweather
It’s very useful, but you already have ForecaWeather widget. There are so many app missing in maemo that you should focus on priorities.
8

Pixelpipe Media Gateway
Looks interesting but I really don’t understand how it works.
7

Qik
The same has the above. The graphics could be better.
7

Skype
A very significant app.
9

TuneWiki
Amazing idea. You can add a few more screens to the presentation, if possible bigger ones that you can see.
9

Nokia weffset
Didn’t understand the idea, but I guess it has nice intentions.

eCoach, Mauku and OMweather are from the community, i.e. aren't things that Jolo looks after. He's looking after http://maemo.nokia.com/maemo-select/...ons/ovi-store/

shouldn't questions like this be reserved for when the end users get the n900 in there hands to see whats good as they are the ones that matter,
at the minute its just respected community members and bloggers who have the n900 in there hand, who's idea of useful is much different to the normal user, who will make or break maemo 5 and beyond

Well I’m a symbian (nokia 5800) user. I’d like to buy an n900 but I never used linux. Sorry for sending my opinion.

Well OK. Either way, it’s my opinion. It will not hurt.

drm my comment was not aimed at you, it was aimed at nokia for starting such a stupid thread before the end user even knows how good current apps on meamo select are to give an opinion as they aint used them.
after all maemo select is for the end user to find and discover, so only makes sense to wait for them to get n900 to see what they make off the apps before gathering feedback
