Will it be possible to use the N900 as a remote control out of the box, or by going to the market place straight away?

Also, anyone know how universal the remote will be?

Super feature for a prankster like me! Can't wait to visit my friends with this phone! Or just walk into an electronic store and mess up their tv screens

EDIT: and will their be more functionality to the IR-technology than a remote control?

Afaik Nokia doesn't support the IR at all.
I believe there is an application Irreco, but i don't know how well it works.

That depends. Does your microwave oven have an IR remote?

The N900 has a IR emitter only. Which means you need to download the remote codes from somewhere, but I guess that means it is pretty universal as long as there's a way a mortal can create Irreco remote templates.

It does not have IrDA though. It's just a CIR port.
