The delay wasn't meant for fixing portrait mode, so no.

It could've been accelerated with the extra month, but I doubt it. Had they added it, it would've shown how agile Maemo is to the world, and when it comes in December, it will make alot of people recognize how open the platform is.

AFAIK, what is coming in December is portrait mode for browser, and perharps some apps.

Don't expect it to come quickly for the whole desktop and general interface. It is a huge undertaking, that may or may not be done for Maemo 5.

Most people here understand and accept the portrait constraints, but this issue will be number one concern and complain point for smartphone users that migrate to the N900.

Again, a lot more people than here are getting the N900. A lot of smartphoners. A whole lot.

I think that will be enough good will to keep most users happy. Rome wasn't built in a day.

When was it confirmed that the browser would get portrait mode? And is it def coming December?

If you want portrait in particular app, file a bug in bugs.maemo.org or vote if there is already a bug for it.
