HEy guys I'm about to pre-order the USA N900 to New Zealand. But not sure if both UK and USA is the same model. I believed that UK N900 will be the same setting to New Zealand Vodafone. But not so sure about the USA N900.

I've read the specs of the device on both UK and USA site and seem to be the same. But just being curious and want to be sure.

Could someone lighting up my darkness?

most likely just going to be an origin code difference which would effect the warranty.

but in your case, i do not think it will matter.

There is only one model as far as frequencies are concerned. They are all the same with the exception of the keyboard and software. I imagine the UK model will have a pound sign where the US version has a dollar sign.

Do you know what frequencies Vodafone uses for 3G in New Zealand?

My guess is that a US model would be better for you.

I dont need the pound sign lol. Where as in NZ we use $ sign anyway. And all of our computer using US keyboard. So USA keyboard seem fit me find. Im going to get one pre-order from Ebay. Then my sister and brother in law will send it to me once they got it. can't wait man.

I'm in love with this device since announced date

Update for those who pre-ordered from NOSUK

Just called Nokia Online Store (UK) and was told all pre-orders will be shipped out either today or Monday. Was kindly told to specifically watch the Inbox for the delivery email today.

Get in!

The device from the UK works out to be much cheaper due to the low GBP.
You need to check with your local Nokia if they'll do warranty on the device you bought overseas (just say you got it while on holiday)

i'm interested in know the difference between the 2 models too.
I never thought about the charging question but that does raise some alarmbells for me buying the US model if it's a problem.
I'm curious to the software differences too. could you flash the UK software onto the USA phone?

I moved to Korea not to long ago and I asked Nokia about this. It more or less affects the warranty. As long as the frequency works in NZ you should be, ok. Also, the language piece was another part but you said, it didn't matter.

I use mine here in Korea as a PMP/Net(ish) book/camera. It doesn't work in Korea. Korea's phone system is strict. I thought about getting the Sony Satio instead since I am really only using it as a MP3/Camera phone. I loved the 12mp camera on the Sony Satio, but missed the Browser features.

Enjoy!

My UK N900 seems to have a version of firmware that isn't available on the tablets-dev download site..

The US one seems to be version 002, where as my UK one is 203.2

Using the same command on 4 different N900, including mine, it reveals this other version some UK models are using:

dpkg -l |grep mp-fremantle

3 regular N900
ii mp-fremantle-generic-pr 1.2009.42-11
ii mp-fremantle-002-pr 1.2009.42-11.002
ii mp-fremantle-003-pr 1.2009.42-11.003

My UK N900
ii mp-fremantle-203-pr 1.2009.42-11.203.2

I wonder if the difference may allow for partial support of ALS/line-2 which seems to work on my UK model
