The specification specifically says 3G support for 850, 900, 1700 and 2100 MHz.

If this was true (which would be surprising), it would be the perfect version for Australia.

(Edit: NextG is a brand name for Telstra's 850MHz rural service)

I just inquired about this phone, and they say they just discovered this stock is false and there is in fact no 900-2, they're removing it from their site.

The mobicity guys seem to be a little bit dodgy. The shop in the photo would be their regular business, http://www.easymobiles.com.au which acts as 'service agent'. Mobicity has an Australian website, and pretends to be Australian, selling to Australians, but is owned by an overseas company. If you are buying a phone from them and not paying GST, I'd be a bit concerned about the tax office.
Its not like buying from a genuine overseas seller.
Between the apparent tax-dodging, and advertising of a non-existent phone, I would be a bit careful. Not that there is any totally easy failsafe way to buy the N900 in Aus.

i agree with myk above - i stumbled upon this website before and noticed most of the phones had SKUs that started with HK etc etc - which i'm assuming is from asia/hong kong (correct me if i'm wrong). that means it wouldnt have an aussie Nokia warranty, which is pretty suss.

is it just me, or are there a fair few Australians that want this phone?

i dont belive about a n900-2 but ...

thinking about it some time ago, an american version of the n900 will come. i was looking for some nokia phones on gsmarena and i found that theres around 5 or more nokias that doesnt have HSDPA 850 on their first version, time later the same phone with HSDPA 850 comes out, thats why i dont know if i buy it now, or just wait.

I would not assume that at all. All those other phones are mass-market Symbian phones, not a small niche product.
BUT if the n900 sells exceptionally well, AND Nokia can negotiate a marketing deal with AT&T, it is possible.
Many of the US versions are no good in Australia or the rest of the world though, as they lack the standard 2100MHz UTMS. Only a few are suitable for Telstra. (The US model n97-mini being one.)

I concur with your sentiments about this sort of seller, but in relation to the point above, payment of GST to the ATO is the responsibility of the seller, not the buyer, so buyers need not be concerned about the ATO if the seller is not meeting their GST obligations.

I was probably more concerned about the ATO putting the seller's "local agent" (not the £2 UK company) in receivership between when you pay, and when you get the phone.

BTW, there are now reports of the N900 coming to Australia from Optus next year.
