Following tradition I'd like to start thread for those waiting for new device

What we know:

- Maemo 6 with Qt based user interface
- Probably the same - or very similar - CPU and GPU
- Probably multitouch capacitive screen - the same size

Overall - hardware will be quite similar to N900 with exception of screen.

So what could be added? My takes:

- out of the box all Bluetooth profiles
- out of the box working FM radio
- out of the box USB host mode (at least OTG); if that mean second USB port due to frakked up standards - let it be
- I think it is time for > 5Mpx camera - 8 at least or make existing 5Mpx really, really good; now it may be good comparing to other phones but comparing to even p&s cameras it is crap
- make it thinner OR put bigger battery; I understand both things are mutually exclusive and only one of things can happen but current situation is far from perfection - personally prefer thinner device
- full-size kickstand

I think it'll be thinner and will do away with the full keyboard, and market itself as more of a phone. I think (and hope ) it'll be cheaper and marketed more as something for your everyday user rather than just IT professionals.

My crystal ball's gone blank now.

I, for one, simply accept whatever the Overlords at Nokia end up deciding for us mere consumers, waste my breath for my personal use and make my personal decision when the time arrives...

Surley most of the people on here buying this are getting it because in not a full on phone, if you move it more towards a proper phone it will lose it appeal to most users.

- Bigger keyboard, 4 rows would be better
- Faster CPU, 1G maybe
- 512 MB of RAM
- 8 MP camera
- Fully portrait supported
- Thinner (would prefer below 14mm)
- Stronger battery, at least 1500 mAh
- More hardware key (at least 3 key for answer, end the call and home key)
- More polished UI
- Make it look more sexy

Only thing that could be better is the battery. Apart from that, I have no problems with the hardware at all.

Another line of keys on the keyboard might be nice too.

* Compass
* USB host capable
* Stylus capable
* Slightly larger screen
* HDMI or displayport output
* transflective (ie sunlight-viewable) display

Possibly:
* four-row keyboard
* xenon flash
* Better stand
* A couple external buttons

An N900 with those additional (or retained) features would meet my needs (Period.) and i would buy one and then buy another to replace it when necessary ad infinitum, and not need a laptop.

However, i suspect it will get few of those, and actually be inferior to N900 by my criteria.

Anyone asking for a faster processor clearly never unplugs their NIT. :P

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

Accelemymote: make your accelerometer more joy-ful

I agree the most annoying thing is the apalling battery life on the N900 , for me almost enough reason to return the phone. how much more can i opptimize the device it still sucks ..otherwise i would be quite happy .
i own i Kindle 2 and amazon released a software update to increase battery life by almost 70 % . i dont think nokia will be able to do that .)
