I want to have a different tone for each contact. I can't figure out how to do it. Thanks for the help

In short, it can't do that.

Longer version: It can't do that yet, but may or may not be able to in future.

If it can't do that I will return the phone to Nokia. Siemens C55 can do that and it is 7 years old

Yes but can the Seimens C55 do everything else the N900 does?

Really depends if you can put up with it in the meantime as a few people have requested this so I would hope they will add it eventually.

Do you really feel all the things to can do so much better than anything else do not outweigh the few things it is missing? Is it really too hard to just glance at the screen to see who is calling?

Don't get me wrong, I do think its stupid they missed out such a simple little feature. However I find it baffling how people consider it a deal breaker.

No. But that's a feature that every phone in the world has.
