is it possible to use a full size external keyboard with the n900? i.e., i do not want to use the keyboard on the phone OR the on-screen keyboard. i want to get an external and physically separate keyboard to use with the phone...

if possible, can you please tell me what exactly i need to purchase so that the keyboard is seamlessly compatible?

thanks,

It's not officially supported, but you you can enable Bluetooth HID support. I've seen a couple of reports here of issues with BT keyboards though, so in practice it might not be seamless. Let's hope someone with a device and keyboard can report on a working combination.

There's such things as bluetooth keyboards. Coudlnt promise it'd work but it might be worth looking into.

You need to install MaemoBlue iirc to get Mouse and Keyboard HId and get a bluetooth keyboard that support HID. Could be wrong though.

Wondering whether there might be any other solutions here. It would be great to have an external wireless keyboard (that folds up) for typing a lot of material. I noticed, for instance, that Nokia has a product dating from about 1995 called the Nokia SU-8W wireless keyboard that folds up and that also has a docking station for a phone. I don't know if this is still made or whether it would work well with the N900. Here is one link I found: http://www.nokiausa.com/find-product...keyboard-su-8w

Thanks!

you *can* use an external bluetooth keyboard, beware though as mileage will vary from brand to brand and language to language.

see this thread for details of how to connect:

If this sounds daunting to you, do not buy one as you'll need to follow these instructions to connect and use symbols...

Thanks for the information. It sounds rather daunting to me. I hope there might be a simpler work-around for a non-techie. It would be great to be able to attach an external keyboard to the N900, thus allowing it replicate even more functions of a netbook. On the thread pointed to in the response, there is mention of a keyboard referred to as the igo stoaway ultra slim keyboard bluetooth, and a question as to whether that might work with the N900. Would the answer be the same?

Any additional help for a non-techie to get a working external wireless keyboard working with the N900?

Thanks!

Any suggestions regarding any external (bluetooth) keyboards that could work easily for a non-techie?

USB keyboards won't work with the N900 due to lack of usb-host mode, right?

(I've seen usbcontrol in -devel, so I'm not sure.)

Much appreciated.
