I got my n810 recently and I love it but I really need an alternative to OpenOffice for loading .xls and .doc files. OpenOffice is painfully slow, to the point that it is just unuseable.

I really only need .xls for a company mileage tracking template. There are empty fields in this .xls for beginning location (which you type in), beginning location odometer reading, destination, destination, destination odometer reading, and then it adds up the odometer readings. There is a separate section for each day, and then it ads up the totals for each day, and at the end of the page, ads the totals up for the whole week.

If there is an alternative to OpenOffice that isn't deadly slow (maybe a mileage tracking application), please let me know!

How about Car Mileage Calculator? Search is your friend. Like for this one, I went to Downloads tab, then searched for "mileage".

abiword is nice and quick for edditing .doc files, just be careful about using commands before you save (like ctrl+a and ctrl+x - both of which have caused somewhat consistant crashes) - there is no autosave.

There is a very good spreadsheet application in Maemo Extras. Can't remember it's name right now but if memory serves me right it supports xls. Check it out first though as I may be wrong.

It is gnumeric, a very good spreadsheet, at least compared to any other spreadsheet. It is also reasonably fast on n8xx

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for and it opens my XLS template just fine! I am however trying to figure out go to another tab in this file.

It is a bit convoluted, click the top menu, then edit, then sheet, then manage sheets

thank you! I would have never figured that out on my own. I just wish viewing sheets was a bit more efficient (like actually showing the tabs or a button on one of the toolbars)

thanks all for the help!

that would be awesome if you found out how.

It's weird because in order to input text into a cell, i have to select the cell first, then go up to the text field above it in order for anything to show up in the cell.

is this normal? This sheet I usually use on my Treo800 and I don't have to do that (just selecting the cell lets you input to it directly). Also, I would like to be able to select a couple of cells together and hold the stylus down to copy them, but i guess I just have to go through the menu to copy and paste, correct?
