This just happened now,
Plugged in charger as it was telling me battery was low, decided to switch it off and charge, now it is not switching back on, the charge light doesn't come on unless i take battery out, then it remains solid.

Help!

Let it charge for a while before attempting to turn it on again.

In the manual it says if your battery runs very flat, you may need to plug the charger in. remove it and then plug it in again before it will charge properly

hehe, next time ill read the manuel,
Managed to switch it on now, however i must say the charging has been funny over these past few days, when i plug charger in when phone is on it doesn't give any sign of charging (green battery up down, orange light ext ), only when its off i see the notification light.
This only happens with the mains charger, charging is fine through usb-pc

echos of the N800.
Many of those (mine inc!) needed to be chilled in the fridge or freezer before they would turn on. That made it hard to change batteries when away from civilisation. I don't know why, but it was fixed in a firmware upgrade.

im having a problem with my n900 also, my battery was low so i decided to plug it in, then it shuts off on it's own. i waited for about 10 mins to turn it back on but my device wont turn on again. It just displays NOKIA on the background and the screen is dim. It also vibrates every once in a while. Is there anyone out there that has the same issues and if it was fixed?
