It would be nice if it were possible to register as a tester for specific applications, and automatically receive an email when a new version is released to extras-testing. I think this would help get the apps into extras faster, because it is much easier to test an application of which you are a user, plus you may be motivated by the fact that you are looking forward to new features.

I know that if I keep the extras-testing repository on, my phone will notify me of updates, but i'd rather not leave it on all the time.

As a side note: I have created a maemo talk account and a bugzilla account, but it seems that to post testing results I need a garage account, and the garage page is down atm...

I agree

I love to test, registered on that other log-on thing, and nothing ever works... i click the thumbs up and thumbs down arrows and it does nothing... so i have decided to not do any testing until someone joins the testing to these forums and makes it a lot easier

I understand that techies and devś know what they are doing... but it just seems that we always make things as hard as possible to link things up on here at times it is a real pity

If you have the Extras-testing repository activated and you have installed your beloved applications from there you receive an update in your device every time a new version is available. An icon will start blinking in your desktop. More efficient than an email.

Just asking, if I installed a application from "Extras" and there is a new update for this application in "Extras-testing" I won't get/see the update notification?

I'd hate to be testing specific apps and suddenly (accidentally) update several I'm not interested in testing. This could potentially break something that is critical to me. And probably sour me on testing anything at all.

If you have the Extras catalog installed then of course you won't see the updates of your apps coming at Extras-testing.

If you are interested testing a specific app you can enable Extras-testing, install the testing version and disable Extras-testing, going back to Extras only.

I see the usefulness of a centralized service that would send notifications of new versions of specific apps in Extras-testing. Maybe you can present a Brainstorm proposal? In the meantime you can look at the web of your beloved project and convince the developers to have a mailing to send such notifications.
