hi all

i just got N900 and i want to ask this communitity its normal that, when i playing a movie on youtube its laggy. flash movies on the web are even slower... is this normal? I downloaded a game called: wormux and its lagging too...

Is this normal with a 600 mhz processor and 1 ghz of ram?
my ipod touch shows a 10 times better performance on youtube.

Is this caused by the firmware version which is not optimized or is it just slow?

Also when i open a pdf file with the built in reader it says: there's not enough memory, but i.ve closed everything!

my firmware version is: 42-11

hope this community can help me,

thnx,

martijn (holland)

Your ipod touch is using an application so that you can view youtube videos. It is not the same.

N900 runs them directly on the mobile browser.

Also, your topic's title is quite misleading...

Issue is that n900 flash is 9.4, which does not allow hw acceleration to be used for drawing, nor decoding the content -> laggy perf. Iphone doesn't support flash, it has a special app for watching youtube videos -> HW use is possible.

Flash 10 makes things much more interesting, as it allows opengl accelerated rendering and it allows dsp to be used for decoding video -> as smooth video playback as you would have on your desktop.

PR1.1 release will improve flash perf, mind you. Also, if I remember correctly, already on 42-11, flash has better perf if you click on the fullscreen button on the youtube flash widget.

There are apps that wrap youtube and they work fine (zoutube?).

Additionally, youtube plays ok on my n900, unless the connection is slow or I am doing smth in the background. It has less than 30 FPS, but it's not choppy, videos are watchable. Are you sure your link is OK and there are no background apps/widgets that use up the resources?
