I had a Nokia N97 and I replaced it with the N900. I was excited at first and still enjoy the multitasking. However, there aren't enough applications to multitask!

Below is a list of essential applications I had on the N97 that I hope will be available with the N900

JoikuSpot - make N900 into a wireless hotspot
Googlemaps - essential (limited with no Compass in N900)
eBuddy - universal messenger applications
Fring - i know this is coming for N900 (hopefully with video calls)

Garmin/Tom Tom/Co Pilot - some form of turn by turn
Ovi Maps update - a new version with some features of Ovi Maps 3 if not all!

Googasync - some way to sync multiple calendars from google

Full editable Quickoffice/ Docs to Go

Mobiola - use N900 as a webcam on the computer via bluetooth/wifi or usb

Shazam - ofcourse!

A decent task manager like Handy Taskman

Callrecorder - in call recording at the click of a button

Advanced Device locks - ability to restrict access to certain applications

Lock screen with a code like G1

So I guess I shouldn't upgrade from my N97... Joikuspot to me is like the most important program on the planet for me.. I wonder if the N900 also support profimail (i love this email client)

Ohh I forgot, Joikuspot sent me an email saying that they will support N900 in the first quarter of 2010, knowing my luck it will be at the end of the first quarter lol

Oh that is some good news though. It's definitely a user friendly way to do it, but apparently there is a way to share ur connection via bluetooth, but its not for noobs like me.

Hopefully that Joiku is taking notice of N900 is an indication of things to come!

For messaging install Pidgin. It is currently the only way to get proper instant messaging protocol support on N900 without suffering from great amount of bugs the other solutions have. It's good enough

you can tether thru nokia suite...

Joiku is already available - though it's proven to be yet unstable. I think it's going to be alright soon.

You don't need ebuddy because you can just install plugins for conversations and that should cover all of your IM needs.
There's allready google maps port called maemo maps.

Fring is already available for maemo but idk if it supports video calls yet - though I've heard that the next firmware will support native video calls

Sygic offers turn by turn navigation with voice guidance and costs around 50 euros.

Sorry I haven't seen any software to sync with google calendars.

Sorry no full fledged office software yet. You can try running Open Office with easy debian, but I've heard that it's terribly slow

Can't seem to find any task manager - though I haven't found a use for after migrating from symbian to maemo.

Sorry no call recorder - though it think it'll be done sooner or later.

No advanced devicelock or anything similar

Device lock is already built in. Just pres the power button and lock the device. You can allso make it an automatic function from settings.
