I would like to have a dictionary on the N900 and I found mDictionay (which I already use on my Nokia 5800) for Maemo. I haven't found any information for Maemo 5 (only 2008 and older) for mDictionary so my question is if it is possible to mDictionary (or another offline dictionary) on the N900? I would like to try it on my own but I think I have to wait two more weeks to get it
Thanks for help.

I think that is possible to download wiktionary and browse it through the web browser offline, but I don't know how to do it.
I will search for it and if I find a solution I will let you know.

There are plans to get QStarDict ported. It actually works already, I've tried, but there was a problem with detecting dictionaries last time I tried. I'll try to figure this out, I already promised the Maemo maintainer to package up some free dictionaries once he fixes the detection issue and optifies the app

Waoh, sounds great. Thanks so far! Maybe it will be available when I get my N900

btw: Aren't you the one who needs money for a N900 Tomaszd? I saw a donate button on a blog but it didn't work (and now I don't know anymore which site)...

QStarDict is in Extras-devel now: http://maemo.org/packages/view/qstardict/
Tomaszd have you tried that version by any chance?

There will be version 0.13.2 soon and if everything goes right it will be in Extras-testing (right now it is in autobuilder build queue).

That's great!
Where do I have to extract the dictionaries? I downloaded some of the dictionaries for StarDict from http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php and they say you should extract them to /usr/share/stardict/dic but I am not sure if this is the correct place for QStarDict...

You can put them in ~/.stardict/dic

Just create the directory if it doesn't exist.

You can put dic folder wherever you want. After that add it in the stardict plugin configuration.
More detailed instruction can be found here: https://garage.maemo.org/docman/inde...&language_id=1

After the newest Firmware update, I had the phone reinstall all the programing from a backup. Now the dictionary fails to work. It doesn't show a list of words. (Black) and you can't load dictionaries into it. The toolbar comes down with 4 different HELP buttons. Anyone know what is wrong with it?
