problem solved, basing on info from another thread
Application manager > Tools > Log
Log shows troubled application catalogues/ repositories
Application manager > Tools > Application catalogue
lists all repositories
Select troubled catalogue/ repository > Details > tick to Disable > OK
And installable applications finally refreshed, showing current date.
2 years ago the problem was much more complicated and I have had to
edit file with repositories to remove wrong code
downloaded via WiFi.

I have date set correctly.
on selecting
Application manager
Main view/ Browse installable applications
get
Refreshed: 15/07/08
over and over again
always the same date from the past
Application Catalogue is made of 15+ repositories
On manual or automatic refresh I get the following error message
Unable to refresh list.
Last refreshed list is shown.
OK.
I assume a number of app repositories is down.
So how to set up working repositories (which one)
as trying to download maemo mapper
from web page
as install file link
got file opened in web browser as a text file
no installation
Any idea ?
