Hi

a quick question

can anyone point me in the right direction, where can i find out how to program in maemo ? and where do i enter the code on the device. I know of the problems that can happen associated with the devices, but i am keen to learn, so any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

Have you done any programming before?

I can't say I've programmed for Maemo before but I think a good place to start would be installing Linux on your PC and then downloading the Maemo/N900 SDK....

I may be wrong though... I'm still looking for a PC I can wipe for Linux...

If you are new to programming, i'd recommend you install pymaemo and learn python. That's the easiest route to go at the moment, and it lets you develop on the phone. Pygtkeditor is a good text editor to use.

The compiler only appears when you type python in console. So go ahead and create file test.py with print "Hello"; in it and try python test.py.

It is generally perhaps more enjoyable to use SSH and bigger screen in your computer to do the editing and running. There might even actually be some Python support in Eclipse IDE.

You can press CTRL-shift X for the console or open it from applications - more - X Terminal
