Is it possible to make some note-taking widget for the desktop?

Something simple you can just quickly check or type on without having to load up any application or opening any (sub)menu. I'm visualizing just a white square on the desktop which you tap and then can start typing on and tap outside to stop - it could be as basic as that.

Have you seen Leafpad? It pretty much does what you describe.

Yes, I guess I would like a Leafpad *widget*, something that lives directly on the desktop, instead of a separate app.

I currently use either Xournal or Leafpad to quickly jot down notes/to-do lists/etc, but something that was already displayed and editable on the desktop would be much quicker, no?

I have shortcuts to both leafpad and xournal on my desktop. Both load in a matter of a couple of seconds. Leafpad may be fractionally faster.

I have sketch there too - so I can scribble and save and type up later.

In fact, by putting one each on a different desktop, I have quick access to some sort of note-taking on three out of four desktops.
