Sorry, im sure i must be mistaking in some way. This is my first problem with this wonderful tablet. the N900, and this wonderful OS. Or better, the first im not able to solve by myself by simply lurking on this wonderful forum.
here's the "problem": i read on maemo select site and in other posts of this forum that ecoach is capable to display tracks on various map, althought you have to restart it for doing so. Problem is im not able doing that: ive restarted, ive checked every part of it, ive unistalled and reinstalled it but it never let and/or ask me to change map source. its not so important, the default map is just good, but id like to see my tracks on virtual earth, if its possible. thanks

May I share your thread? I am also having issues with eCoach. I am a wifi only user I have no internet stream to my phone via my phone service so I was hoping I can download maps ahead of time or just have the program record my gps data and apply it ot a map later (and export it to my PC if possible) I started up the program and it got my GPS location but it doesn't seem to move when I move and its just on a white screen with no map, yet when I have connected to the program with wi-fi it just loads a map showing me the south pole, and when I load my gps data file it doesnt seem to do anything with it.

My goal is to take my N900 with me for a mountain bike ride and have it record my journey then later on see what that path looks like on a map, it would be really nice to see how far I went, how fast I went, and what that crazy off road path looks like on a map.

Any guidance on how to do this would be very much appreciated.

Once you have your new activity, and the map is displayed, there is a "Map Source" button in the menu (click on the window title). You need to restart eCoach for the new map to display.

The way I do it:
Click on "New Activity" on the main screen. Enter some info, and OK. You're then in the map screen, click on "Rec" to start recording. Go for your ride, and click on "Rec" again once you're done. You should see the track in red of where you've been. If you close the map, and go into Activity Log, it gives you a bit more data on speed and distance.

Note that you need a data connection to get the initial GPS fix. If the internet connection dies after that, I think the map stays blank, but it'll still record your track (as long it's got a GPS signal). It saves the .gpx file in the eCoach folder.

Hey

There seems to be a bug...user cannot properly use eCoach without network connection because the map engine will keep asking for data connection even the current maptile is already downloaded.

I will have to take a look at this. (I actually never used my N900 & eCoach without data connection )

Is there a way to increase the "refresh interval" of ecoach updating gps speed & location? Now there's about one-two seconds interval and when driving a car with high speed the program doesn't track everything (car moves many meters in one second)... It also would make the map move "smoother" if it gets update more frequently, I think.

tracking your sports activity (ecoach) in a car is missing the whole point somehow we could use another 'tracking' or 'waypoint' application better suited for capturing routes...

thank you Slocan I finally found it! I didnt notice that the window tile was clickable when starting a new activity. Thank you Sampppa for developing such a fantastic app. At the moment I've only used it with data connection but I could like to use it without it in the future too.

Thanks, thats what I need it to do.

Ether:

A.) Be able to download the map tile ahead of time and store it (this is how all 3 of my gps programs work on my netbook)

or

B.) Just record the gps data and locations and save them and later on apply them to a map when I get a data connection.

Im a broke guy, cant afford the $80 a month or so for a data connection that I will almost never need. Everywhere I go has wifi.

At least the bluetooth based external GPS devices usually only give you the location once in a second (I don't know about the internal ones in N810 and N900, I don't have either one). You'd have to interpolate in between.
