Hello. I am a previous iPhone and Mytouch user. I am curious about how to add commonly used words (i.e. slangs) to the dictionary so that it auto completes? I did a search on this and to my knowledge, I did not find anything that pertains to my issue. Another thing, usually, when you hit the space bar twice, a period is inserted but that does not seem to work here and neither does auto-capitalization (i vs. I). I am not a developer or particularly tech savvy so I'd appreciate very simple solutions if you have any. Cheers

Hi sierra052. There's actually no need of adding words to the internal dictionary, it simply does that automatically. Just try to write a strange word in an application with autocomplete support (e.g. conversations), then try to write it again (even in another application with autocomplete support): it will autocomplete. For the autocapitalization, it is supported just by some Maemo applications, not in "Web", for example.

it would be nice to edit the dictionary though, ie removing misspelled words

edit: from another thread:

Yeah, that would be nice

Where does it store the words? With that information someone could create an application for managing the word list (add/remove/edit words etc)

EDIT: This might be of value

bump again (as lame as that is) I'm sick of seeing "justmfinished" try to auto complete when I just mean "just". I accidentally hit "m" instead of space and now I'm scarred for life!

its also rather telling that if I hit "f" it autos to "f*ck" and "b" autos to "boobs". I'm a sad, dirty many apparently.

After some puzzling over the file format, I've got an app written which allows the deletion/addition of entries from the auto-complete dictionary. Unfortunately the N900 seems to cache the auto-complete entries and overwrites any changes whenever it adds new terms. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this cache flushed?

I figured out that just killing hildon-input-method forces it to restart and reload the dictionary. I've therefore finished up and released AutoComplete Editor.
