Hi all,
when using calender on N900 if your contact has a date of birth set in the contact area a little birthday cake appears on the calender as an icon for their birthday.
How about for the kiddies .... i have kids and nephews and nieces and friends kids whose birthdays i have to remember so add them to my calender .... the only way i can get a birthday cake to appear on the calender is by adding the kids into my contacts with date of births which isn't really the best way around this.

does anyone know how to get a cake icon as a selection when adding birthdays into calender alone or is this another thing that we should notify maemo/nokia of for upgrade in a firmware update????

Now, I know, this isn't English class, but you really don't come across as too bright when you can't even properly spell a common word. Ya knoes? (yes, I know. Knows is misspelled )

In case you haven't noticed yet: There aren't only native-english-speakers in this world! In several languages the word for calendar is very similar but written with an "e"... you don't come across as too bright if you post such nearsighted comments!

I don't know where the OP is from and if English is his/her first language. It isn't my first language though, and I know for sure a posting like yours wouldn't make me feel welcome here.

(In case you're interested: My first language is German. In German, the word's spelled "Kalender". Because of the similar pronunciation, I usually write "calender" in English, too. Just happens.)

I'm not aware of any other way to achieve this.

OTOH... what's so bad about adding them to your contacts? I don't know how old they are, but they'll eventually get cell phones and chat accounts etc. - if they'r enot old enough to already have them.

You know, if you add them to the calendar only, you still have to enter date and name. The same data is entered when you add them as contacts. What's so bad about this solution? Add them, add nice photos as avatars and have them with you all the time.

I know what you're saying Benny ... perfectly fine fix to add the kiddies in as contacts but I would feel a lot better if i could just add it into the calendEr and a little birthday cake came up ..... mabye I have a form of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder .... or maybe its because the N900 doesn't come cheap and I feel simple things like this should not be an issue .... either way i hope either
1) a developer can create an add on
2) maemo/nokia sort it in next firmware update .... what would i do to tell them i feel this is an issue?? email them?

but to be honest i am loving the N900 ... well impressed

No, make a bug report and mark severity as an enhancement, as it is not really a bug.

I am dyslexic and English and therefore didn’t realize calendar was spelt incorrectly. (I have spell checked this reply)

Oh, and, your second comma is superfluous. Also, "ya" is slang. Finally, correcting a foreigner at your native language is like picking a fight with a three year old. How well can you spell in other languages?

Anyway, back on topic, I think that the pink icon is there for a reason - not to show birthday but to point out the source of the entry. Namely, it's from the contacts database not from the normal appointment list.

I do agree, however, with something close. Say, a blue cake? What impact would a theme have?

Please let's not flame someone because he corrected a simple mistake.

Most browsers provide spellcheck by default these days, and even though I am not a native English speaker, it did surprise me to see the mistake repeated so many times.

This being said, the OP should be grateful that he was corrected, as it enables him to better himself. This being said, the second line was probably superfluous and unnecessary.

Now, can we get back on topic?
