It will lower the brightness of your display when it's dark. This is a pretty nice feature, but sometimes you move your finger over the sensor whilst using the phone and than the screen will get darker too. But as long as you know why it is doing that, everything should be fine for you.

Oh, ok so that is all it does? Was afraid that it was lowering cpu speed or something.
