I got my N900 in the UK with vodafone, while in Mexico I have been using a Telcel sim card but the internet never worked, I couldn't connect to it. I read somewhere here that Telcel used a different frecuency not supported by the N900.....well after updating to the latest firmware, the internet works flawlessly, the speed is not 3G but EDGE, but hey, I can't complain.

The N900 is not available at the moment in Mexico.

I have a n810, a Huawei phone, and Telcel's Amiga service. The bluetooth connection works. The phone connects to Telcel's 3G network, the n810 thinks it has a connection, but the n810 never receives data in response to a url. I realize your situation is different, but do you have any ideas?

And what settings did you use? I was there recently using a prepaid telcel sim, but couldn't get internet connectivity fully!

I'm from México!!
I got my n900 and updated it as soon as I first turned it on (updated using wifi). I have an unlimited data plan with telcel and never needed any configuration.

Even when I love my n900 i have the no-3g-issue and it sucks, my device displays "2.5" in the status area under the signal strength bars.

I have a poor internet speed, around 5kb/s, its ok to send and receive emails but almost impossible to watch a youtube video.
