With the iphone, you can control your music outside the ipod application by double pressing the menu button on the iphone. is there any way to implement that on the n900? or have keyboard shortcuts that works outside of the media player application.

say you are browsing a webpage and you want to change a song. you can pull up the media shortcut popup like the iphone or simply use keyboard shortcuts to change tracks etc.

not with the default media player but it might be possible with third party media players. Why not just quickly go to the task switcher? Takes 2 seconds...or use the headphone controller that came with it.

i'm using headphones that aren't from nokia. it just seems more convenient with shortcuts if you just want to change the track or pause the music. just because it takes a few clicks doesnt mean it should not be implemented.

There is a widget called shake2control that allows you to change/pause music by shaking the device. The package is in extras-testing : http://maemo.org/packages/view/shake2control/

yes i tested that and used it which is very cool but unfortunately u can only skip song forward by shaking to the N900 to the left so the there is no previous or backward shake for the previous song !!
still it's an Amazin step i iwas soo enjoying in my previous cowon S9
